Composed and Performed by Chris Grabau

Inspired by the Donald Baechler sculpture

In my lifetime, I have only discovered two "real" scarecrows. Each was discovered unexpectedly while exploring rural southwest Missouri (one was in an overgrown barn by abandoned home and the other in an old drive-in theater that was converted into a car parts lot). In both cases, the scarecrow was an unexpected yet simultaneously familiar sight.

Like my previous experiences with scarecrows, the sculpture is placed in a place where someone might not expect to see it. A person could easily walk on past it without taking a lot of notice.

In an attempt to evoke that same casual unexpectedness of my own experiences, I recorded a piece that is simply a live track of me on guitar and harmonica, a meandering piece with no real structure. A quick tune that hopefully sounds both familiar and slightly out of step.
