Inspired by the Keith Haring sculpture

Close your eyes. Imagine it’s 1982. You’re walking down East 174th St. in The Bronx. To your right, the Bronx River Houses housing project rises out of the concrete. Graffiti marks the walls. Groups of young boys are dancing on the wide sidewalks, and the innovative sounds of drum machines and disco synthesizer loops pour out of a boom box.

This is the birthplace, the fertile crescent of hip-hop and it is this sound and history that provides the foundation for Andre Anjos’ ode to Keith Haring’s sculpture, “Ringed Figure.”
